Pregnancy Tips

I’ve been doing too much lately and it has been wearing me down. I finally got a few days to just relax with my family while camping in beautiful Idaho forests. It got me to thinking how much I take for granted when it comes to everyday life while being pregnant and how easy it is to do too much. So I hope you don’t mind me sharing my thoughts/tips.

You know how everyone always tells you to sleep as much as you can while you can (being pregnant)? There’s a reason for that. Yes you’ll get less sleep when the baby comes BUT you also need sleep NOW. Sleep is so important for our overall health. Sleep while pregnant is a big deal! Not only are you trying to take care of your own body but you’re also growing another body. And if you’re still breastfeeding a child you’re basically feeding three humans! That’s going to take a toll on your body if you aren’t getting good sleep.

So pregnancy Tip #1 is get some sleep. Nap when you can. Try going to bed a bit earlier each night to get some extra shut eye. Don’t use your cellphone or other technology for at least an hour before bed (pregnant or not 😉). I like to diffuse my Young Living oils or massage blend to help me wind down and relax.

Tip #2 is give yourself a break. Giving yourself a little grace can go a long way. Yeah maybe there’s laundry and dishes piling up, but don’t rag on yourself for that. You’ll get to it eventually. Just take it one step at a time and stop feeling guilty for not having a sparkling clean house.

Tip #3 is learn to say no. If you’re like me and like to do it all, this one is especially for you. I have always struggled saying no to things…but with baby #2 on the way I’m really working on this one. It’s been a good thing to be able to say no to a busy week and only do the things I feel are necessary. After a busy weekend it’s nice to be able to say no to going places and just stay home and enjoy my garden, or slowly catch up on sleep/rest or housework (as long as I’m not cracking the whip on myself).

It’s so easy for us to get caught up in all the things we have to do and forget to just pause, take a moment to breath (or take a nap) and truly learn how to rest. Don’t take life for granted. It’s fragile and goes far too fast.
